George considers himself a very lucky man. He was sitting in his lounge unaware of any problems when he realised the room was filling up with smoke. A pan had been left on unintentionally, fortunately on this occasion he was able to alert the emergency services.

Following this incident a referral was made to Social Services for a smoke alarm. The application was successful and George had a smoke alarm installed through the Preventative Technology grant. This grant forms part of a government lead initiative to assist with independent living.

The smoke alarm is programmed through George’s Community Alarm equipment so if there are any further incidents a call will be received into the Cestria Control Centre. The controller will then contact the Fire Brigade, a support worker and inform family of the incident.
